BIO: The Magic of David Acer

WWidely considered to be the world’s leading authority on magic with ointment, Canada’s David Acer is the inventor of such contemporary classics as “Light and Heavy Lanacain,” “Ring in Preparation H,” and of course his worldwide best-seller, “D’Vagisil.” As a teenager in the mid-1980s, he competed several times in the Magie Montréal close-up competition, twice losing to Richard Sanders, who was suspected of having bribed at least one judge (the name of whom we can’t reveal due to legal reasons, but it rhymes with “George Schmindler”). David finally won the competition on his third try (by that point, Richard had moved on to telemarketing scams), and the resulting media storm landed him a sweet thirty-five-dollar gig at Denny’s.

Since then, David’s eclectic talents as a magician, comedian and writer have been featured on dozens of television shows around the world, including A&E’s “Comedy on the Road,” Discovery’s “Grand Illusions,” NHK Japan’s “F.I.S.M. 2000,” Sky One’s “The Secret World of Magic” and ABC’s “America’s Funniest People,” where he placed second behind a vomiting squirrel. He has performed and lectured at both the Magic Castle and F.I.S.M., authored eight critically acclaimed books of close-up magic, he’s been writing the legendary Magicana (i.e., trick) section in Genii magazine since 2005, and he is currently the co-host and co-writer of Discovery Kids’ hit series, “Mystery Hunters,” which has garnered him two Gemini nominations. (the Canadian equivalent of the Emmys) and a spin-off book-deal with Kidscan Press.
