David Acer is an original in a business where creativity is a treasured commodity, and that fact alone places him on the very short A-list of top contributors to the art of magic.” - David Regal

INTERVIEWS WITH DAVID ACER

Doubting Dave (a.k.a. David Acer) is the resident skeptical scientist on MYSTERY HUNTERS. In real life he is a comedian and magician. Here, we get to chat to him about his weird and wonderful experiences.

Q: So, you're a comedian in your day job. How did you end up as the resident scientist on Mystery Hunters?

Doubting Dave: Well, I wouldn't call being a comedian a day job, but I ended up on Mystery Hunters because I actually AM a magician, scientist and sceptic, which is exactly what Doubting Dave is!

Q: What's the weirdest Mystery Hunters question you've been asked?

Doubting Dave: A 10-year-old boy wrote in once and asked if I knew where the remote to his TV was. I told him to check between the cushions on his couch, and he found it there, along with twenty-three dollars in change, a pile of raisins (which may have been grapes when they fell in) and a cat he didn't even know he had!

Q: Have you ever had an experiment go awry and turn out very differently from how you expected?

Doubting Dave: I once tried to create a chicken that tastes like frog legs, but alas, in the end, it tasted like chicken.

Q: What do you like best about the Discovery Kids Mystery Lab? Did you design it?

Doubting Dave: I didn't design my laboratory - we have an amazing team that created the space, and I'm always finding little things they built that I never noticed before. For example, under my counter, there's a button that says DO NOT TOUCH. I have no idea what it does, and whenever I ask anybody, they say, " Just don't touch it"! I don't know how much longer I can resist…

Q: Have you had any scary or mysterious experiences that can't be explained?

Doubting Dave: Absolutely! I have a clothes dryer that appears to be a doorway into another universe. I've lost so many socks in there, I finally gave up and bought sandals.

Q: What are some of your quirkiest experiences on the set of Mystery Hunters?

Doubting Dave: We have a skeleton in my Mystery Lab, and I swear, sometimes he moves when we're not looking. There's just something mischievous about him. One time, I got home and my wallet was missing. The next day, we found it on the Mystery Lab floor. All the money was gone, and the skeleton was wearing a brand new leather jacket!
